This Sunday is our annual Church in the Park service. It is one of my favorite services of the year at Immanuel. It is fun to gather as a church family to worship God in the midst of his creation and then have a picnic and fun fellowship together. I hope you’ll be able to attend! For directions, see Immanuel’s website (www.iachurch.org/park) or our Facebook page.
This weekend is also Memorial Day. While it is a fun weekend and the unofficial start of summer, it is much more and call us much deeper than a sense of fun. In the wisdom of our past leaders, it was set aside to call us to remember the sacrifice men and women have made throughout our history as a nation to ensure our “freedom and tranquility.” Through the busyness of day to day life, it would be easy for us to forget these brave men and women.
The 1928 Book of Common Prayer included this Collect for Memorial Day. I commend it to you for this weekend:
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, in whose hands are the living and the dead: We give thee thanks for all thy servants who have laid down their lives in the service of our country. Grant to them thy mercy and the light of thy presence; and give us such a lively sense of thy righteous will, that the work which thou hast begun in them may be perfected; through Jesus Christ thy Son our Lord. Amen.
See you at the park,
